March 11, 2009
Dear Parents,
The 2008 – 2009
school year marks Rays of Hope Charter School’s 12th year of
operation. In those 12 years Rays of Hope has met the needs of
countless high-risk students. Rays of Hope opened its doors and
its arms to a wide variety of students who were having
difficulties fitting in socially and academically. Many of these
students have moved on to have successful and meaningful academic
careers.
It
is with great sadness and a heavy heart to have to announce that
Rays of Hope Charter School will be closing its doors at the end
of this, 2008-2009, school year. Despite our successes and
achievements, our milestones and triumphs, we can not afford to
keep our doors open after this school year. Challenges due to
budget reductions and a decreasing student population reduced our
funding so much that we are no longer able to remain in business.
The good news
is that I feel confident your students are being put in excellent
hands. Seminole County Public Schools is an A rated school
district that is doing an excellent job at meeting the needs of
their students, your children, whether they be high achievers or
high-risk. The intensive programs at the middle schools are
focused on increasing student achievement. Many of the programs
being used at Seminole County Middle Schools are the same programs
we used here at Rays of Hope.
Please be
assured that the Rays of Hope Staff will ensure the smooth
transition of the students back to their zoned schools for next
school year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel
free to call me at 407-322-5010.
Sincerely,
John Welch
Principal
